PJ party looks to break world record

Weekends are for casual clothes, and Madeline Maher from Birr is hoping locals will take that to the extreme next weekend and join her for a two kilometre walk in pyjamas to break a world record and raise money for six local causes.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent Madeleine said the current world record for a pyjama walk is 700, so she’s hoping 750 people will turn up in Birr on Sunday, September 22 next to blast that and get themselves into the record books.

A small entry fee will also provide much-needed funds for six causes: Offaly Hospice, St Vincent de Paul in Birr, Birr Cardiac First Responders, Tom and Sean Donogher in Kinnitty, Aware and Birr Lions Club.

Both pyjamas and onesies will be accepted clothing for the walk that will get underway at 7pm from the Tesco car park.

Locals are welcome to come along to the event from 3.30pm however, as entertainment including music, face painting and a raffle will get underway then.

The entry fee for the September 22 event is €10. Family rates are also available. Registration before the event is available by contacting David O’Meara in Pharmacy Plus on 057 9125560, the County Arms Hotel on 057 9120791, Birr Leisure Centre on 057 91203443 or Madeline herself on 087 9075958.

Registration will also be available on the day.
