New roles on offer for new drama

Are you small and scrawny? Do you have greasy hair but a warming smile? Or maybe you boast the body shape of a bowling pin? If any of the above describes you, you could be just what Offaly production company StandMantra Productions are looking for.

The company is currently casting for a film called “Skunky Dog”, a short contemporary drama set in a small fishing village on the south-east coast of Ireland. Roles that need filling include that of the male lead Flick, as well as a number of other male roles.

“Skunky Dog” plots the story of Flick, a 19-year-old alcoholic in a rural fishing town who is confronted by the truth that he might never break his routine or leave the town.

Filming of the drama is scheduled to take place over four days between March 3 and March 9 next, while the finished product is to be marketed to both national and international film festivals as well as television networks worldwide.

CVs and showreels are currently being accepted for the role of Flick, Mick, Shooter, Morgan, Joe Doyle and three speaking extras.

Flick is a small scrawn lad, His face is red and covered in freckles that are so close together they almost resemble dirt. He has bad teeth and his posture is that of a much older frail man. Although he has no prospects going for him he does dream of something bigger and better.

Mick is aged somewhere between 45 and 50. A friendly man with greasy hair and a warming smile, he earns an honest living as the local mechanic. He also minds his own business and wishes others could do likewise.

Shooter is a 39-year-old man with the body shape of a bowling pin, He leads a dead-end life and lacks the ambition to do otherwise. He has a master’s degree in drinking pints and sneering. The only sport he’s ever played is darts and pool, and the only thing that makes him happy is “Happy Hour” down at the local.

Morgan is 50 and a kind-hearted publican who likes to be everyone’s friend. He’s passionate about pulling pints but will sit on the fence of every conversation.

Joe Doyle is Flick’s father. Aged 60, he’s a man plagued by violence and alcohol dependency. A small man who stopped caring long ago, he has a hard face, stubble and thinning hair.

Speaking extra roles include Tony, Pauly and Sean who are all in their 40s.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to audition, and those hired for the job will receive travel, accommodation and food expenses.
