Classical Sunday a family fundraiser for Birr Special Olympian Conor

Next Sunday, June 22, Birr Theatre and Arts Centre will host a very special family afternoon, bringing all the family together for an hour of classical music for the young and not-so-young.

Attendees will hear Vincent Hunt on cello, Tally Flynn on violin and Katherine Crossen on piano as they are taken on a summer’s journey to France for Cesar Franck’s Cello Sonato, to Austria for Mozart’s Violin Sonata and to the land of film for familiar sounds for young and old alike.

Helping to send Conor Dwyer on his journey to Belgium this summer on the Special Olympics team, all funds raised from the concert will go to Birr’s own Olympic champion who swims for Ireland.

Vincent Hunt has a post-graduate diploma in Music from University of Ulster, an MA in performing from University of Limerick and is ex-Chairperson of the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras. He currently conducts and directs the Laois School of Music Ensemble, the Irish Midlands Youth Orchestra and is a founder member of the Roscommon County Youth Orchestra and the County Kildare Orchestra.

Katherine Crossen returned to Ireland in 2006 from the USA, where she taught music and performed regularly. She now lives near Tullamore where she teaches.

Tally Flynn recently completed her Masters in Performance and Musicology in Maynooth and won the Maynooth Concert Competition in 2013 and has competed, with distinction, in the Feis Ceoil.

Tickets for the June 22 show cost €10, with tickets for children under twelve just €5. More information is available at www.birrtheatre.com or by calling the box office on 057 9122911. The show will begin at 3pm and will last approximately one hour.
