Annual barbecue to be held in Ballycommon on Sunday afternoon

The fifth annual barbecue at the bridge will be hosted by the Ballycommon Canal Renewal Group this Sunday, August 3, in Ballycommon.

As always, the event is open to all and will offer something for everyone in the family.

Included in the event will be novice fishing under the watchful eyes of the Grand Canal Anglers Club, with registration from 4pm at the 21st lock. Rods and bait will be provided on the day, and anglers will be on hand to help the juniors aged between eight and 16 to set up.

Also included on the day will be canal zorbs thanks to Grand Canal Adventures. Your chance to walk on water, the zorbs will be operated on the day by fully trained experts. Kayaking and water games will also be included thanks to Tullamore Canoe Club.

Safety equipment will be provided, but those taking part are asked to bring a change of clothes and a towel. Novelty water activities will also run throughout the day, while a raft race time trial will also take place for teams of four, the fastest of which will go forward to compete in the Offaly IWAI raft race in Tullamore at the end of September.

The main event - the barbecue itself - will begin at approximately 5pm and will run through to 8.30pm before everything moves up to Ballycommon House. Entertainment will be in place all through the day.

Tickets for the barbecue are €7, with family concessions also available. Tickets can be bought from committee members, at Ballycommon House or by calling Gerry on 086 0647797.
