Mark pollocks story to be screened as part of offline film festival

A special screening of ‘Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story’ has been announced for Birr Theatre and Arts Centre as part of the OFFline Film Festival.

The screening, which has been arranged for October 9 in association with accessCINEMA, will be followed by a question and answer session with both Mark Pollock and filmmaker Ross Whitaker.

Filmed over six years, ‘Unbreakable’ is the story of blind athlete Mark Pollock’s tragic fall that left him paralysed, and how he found his courage again.

After losing his sight at the age of 22, Mark went on to become a Commonwealth Games medal winner and competed in ultra endurance races across deserts, mountains and the polar ice caps. Ten years after losing his sight he became the first blind person to race to the South Pole.

Just four weeks before the day of his planned wedding to fiancee Simone, a 25 foot fall from a second storey window in July 2010 left Mark near death and paralysed from the waist down however.

‘Unbreakable’ is not just the story of six years of Mark’s life, but also his mission to find and connect people worldwide to fast track a cure for paralysis, a mission that gives the audience a glimpse of the frontiers of robotics and medical science.

‘Unbreakable’ is ultimately a testament to the power of human relationships, following Mark and Simone as they use their combined force to challenge their fate and how the support of thousands of people around the world has carried them on.

A trailer for ‘Unbreakable’, which was produced with the participation of the Irish Film Board, RTE and Rehab, can ve viewed at www.markpollockfilm.com/trailer.
