Edenderry boxer goes toe to toe with indie band

Edenderry’s national light-fly boxing champion Lauren Hogan is the star of Triptik Empire’s hilarious crowd-funding video urging fans and music-lovers to support the quartet.

According to lead vocalist and bass-player Carl Masurel, the collaboration with Lauren Hogan was unplanned. “The initial script had casted an elderly woman with a tough attitude giving us a ‘lesson’ on a boxing ring; emphasising the fact that we are good for nothing but making music. Once the script was done, we entered in contact with Liam Brereton, the Edenderry boxing club coach, to use their boxing ring,” he explained.

“We hired an actress to play the role of the ‘granny’ but unfortunately two days before the shooting the actress had to cancel. We were really down and so desperate that one of us was ready to dress up and perform as an old lady. Anyway, we decided to go there and see what would happen,” he recalled.

When the band headed for Edenderry boxing club to complete the shoot, Carl said, “we explained the situation. Liam [Brereton] then suggested us to hire one of his boxers to play the role play the role of the main character for the shooting. That’s how we received a ‘real’ lesson from the National Light Fly Boxing Champion, Lauren Hogan.”

Holding a variety of different musical and cultural backgrounds, Triptik Empire’s main goal is to create a powerful, hyper energetic and fresh rock sound that could be surprising and catchy at the same time.

Carl added: “Because it is hard for an Independent band like us to finance professional production and recordings, the crow-funding appears like a great and challenging opportunity, which leads the band and their fans to build a project together. It is also a good chance for music lovers to actively engage in a band musical production.”

Since 2013 the band has been playing in pubs, cafes-concerts and festivals in Dublin and France. The band release the video to promote the crowdfunding campaign on the ULULE.com in order to gather funds to finance their first six-track EP titled ‘The Age of Mistakes.’
