Tullamore store teams up with Special Olympics to support local athletes

A sandwich store in Tullamore has teamed up with Special Olympics Ireland to support the organisation's local athletes as it works to change the lives of people with an intellectual disability throughout the county. Customers visiting Subway in Harbour Street in the town now have the option of donating their loose change into collection boxes which have been provided by Special Olympics Ireland. Owner Peter Mark and his staff are part of a year long nationwide fundraising campaign which has been launched by the Subway chain in the Republic of Ireland in partnership with Special Olympics Ireland. "All 107 Subway stores throughout Ireland are putting their weight behind this fundraising campaign and we are confident that our customers in Offaly will join us in supporting Special Olympics Ireland," said Peter Mark. "Every cent that we collect will make a difference and will help Special Olympics Ireland to continue to change the lives of its athletes, family members and volunteers. It is estimated that there are 35,000 people with an intellectual disability in Ireland." All donations from Subway customers will go towards providing sports training and competition for these athletes and will also be used to reach out to people who are not already involved, to recruit and to train volunteers and to develop new clubs locally.
