In April last the home of the Davies family of Gorteen, Daingean, was totally destroyed by fire.

Neighbours and local community decided to undertake a fund raising exercise to raise funds for the family. Speaking on behalf of the fund committee Joe Lynch chairman said: "The Daingean community can be very proud of the support it has given to this worthy cause. We were welcomed at the doors of every house we visited".

Fund secretary Malachy Mangan recalled what it means to have neighbours in a time of need. "A community can be judged by its neighbourliness, we may have lost a house in our community but we have strengthened our neighbourhood connections," he said.

The hand-over of cheque was presented last Thursday evening. On behalf of the family Michelle and Michael thanked the local community for their generosity and thoughtfulness.
