Road markings outside school for students' safety - Dooley

Tullamore Town Council has installed new road markings outside St Philomena's National School on Convent Road in an effort to make safer that area for students.

Cllr Sinead Dooley said this is one of a number of measures that she and other members have been calling on the council to provide for quite sometime.

"I was invited to a meeting of the Parent's Council in St Philomena's School earlier this year and the main cause of concern for every parent was their child's safety and the lack of adequate safety measures being taken by the council. We decided to put forward a submission to the consultants who are preparing the transportation study for the council at the moment outlining our concerns and the parents gathered signatures from all householders in the vicinity supporting our request for pedestrian crossings, a set-down area outside the school and a review of traffic management in general on Convent Road. The road markings and signs which have recently been installed are only a small step in the right direction to make this road safer for pupils, and it is very welcome."
