Local suggestions for Geashill station welcome

Profile by Laura Ryder  Updated: Monday, 20th February, 2012 11:30am

Proposals from locals in Geashill and Offaly County Council will be considered when deciding what to do with the now closed Geashill garda station, it has been revealed. The topic was up for discussion in the Dáil last week after Fine Gael's Marcella Corcoran Kennedy posed a parliamentary question on the issue.

A written answer from Junior Minister at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Brian Hayes, who has special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) said the OPW is to examine "other potential State uses" for the building. If no other use is identified for the building Minister Hayes said arrangements will be made to dispose the property on the open market. However, he said any viable local proposals concerning the station from the community or the local authority would be considered.
