Budding young chefs launch new cook book

Young people from Portumna and Rhode joined the Tullamore members of the P2B Youth Café for the launch of their cook book 'Cookalicious'. The P2B members cooked many of the dishes in the cook book for their counterparts to enjoy. This was the culmination of a project run during 2011 where the P2B members chose a recipe which they prepared and cooked. This happened over a number of weeks and when they had completed 10 recipes they decided to put them together in a book designed for young people who might be leaving home for the first time. The meals are simple to prepare and include staples like Lasagne, Korma, Brownies and Pancakes. The members involved in the project learned how to prepare a dish and the importance of hygiene when working with food. Most of the young people involved had little or no previous experience of preparing a dish from scratch and they all said that they enjoyed the experience. The members would like to thank Offaly Youth Bank and Offaly Local Development Co. who funded the project. The book is now on sale at €3 from the Centre and some other local outlets.
