A lucky Offaly couple who won €250,000 in the August Bank Holiday Summer Millionaire Lotto draw picked up their winnings at the National Lottery offices earlier today (Monday, August 13). The duo won the second highest prize in the raffle thanks to a ticket bought in Doolan's service station in Kilcormac on June 17 as a Father's Day gift.
The two have chosen not to go public with their win. However they did reveal that it comes in the same year as they celebrate 25 years of marriage.
The winning couple reportedly checked their ticket on Tuesday last, August 7, the day after the raffle. They said they held off on going to the lottery headquarters until this week as they couldn't get their heads around it for the most part of a week. "It's such a shock to the system," they said on eventually swapping their ticket for €250,000. "This sort of news really is too good to be true."
The happy couple both work full-time, and don't intend things to change in any major way. "We're 25 years married this year - we got married the same year as the National Lottery began - so it's really nice to win a prize like this in a celebratory year," the wife said today. While there are no immediate plans for the money, she said she would love to go on a Mediterranean cruise perhaps later in the year.
Meanwhile two Donegal holders of two Lotto Plus 2 prizes worth €250,000 each have yet to claim their prizes. The two tickets were purchased last Saturday in Letterkenny. Each holder has 90 days to claim their prize.
