Edenderry developer pledges no more lost or expired passports with new app

An Edenderry photographer and developer is taking the app world by storm with an app that aims to never let your passport expire or get lost. Finn Mooney's "Passport Minder" app was launched in the iPhone market just last week, with plans to launch an Android app in the near future. Finn said he hit on the idea for the app earlier this year as a solution to a problem he often faced himself - lost and expired passports. "Passport Minder" reminds users three months before their passport is due to expire, with reminders issued again six weeks and four weeks before the expiry date. In addition the app allows users to geotag and take an image of their passport, so they can easily find it later even if they've forgotten where they've left it. "I've seen it for years, friends and family turning up at airports for that annual get away, only to realise at the last minute that one of the group's passport is out of date," Finn said, explaining the motivation behind the app. "Then the mad rush to the passport office for a temporary document. The Passport Minder app brings an end to the panic, providing the business and leisure traveller with peace of mind." Work on Finn's app took some five months from inception to launch. It's now available for €1,79 in the iPhone app store. More information on it is also available at www.passportminder.ie.
