Revamped town park finally officially opened to public

Even the sun was out to help Brian Cowen and Richard Egan officially open Tullamore?s Lloyd Town Park last Saturday, which has been revamped to the tune of €1.3 million.

Starting off by wishing Brian Cowen the very best of luck on May 7, Cllr Egan continued in this charming vein by presenting birthday girl Sinead Dooley and fellow female council colleague Molly Buckley with celebratory flowers.

Describing the new look park as the jewel in Tullamore?s crown, Cllr Egan said the park was no longer an aspiration, but now a living breathing reality.

“We?ve launched the ship, it?s watertight, it?s going in the right direction and it should stay the course,” he said, before handing over to man of the moment Brian Cowen.

Minister Cowen, having come back from experimenting at the bowling green, joked that it?s lucky receipts for the park work are all sent in and money paid, facing as we are into a more difficult situation in the year ahead.

Calling for respect for all users of the park, Minister Cowen said the people of the town can be very proud of what has been achieved and said he looks forward to using the park himself in the future.

Wrapping up the festivities of the morning, Cllr Egan and Minister Cowen jointly unveiled a plaque and officially opened Lloyd Town Park for business.
