Tullamore students earn health and safety certs

Some 39 students were presented with NISO (National Irish Safety Organisation) certificates for successful completion of the NISO health and safety course.

The course was held in AIT, Tullamore and Longford between September 2008 and February 2009.

The successful candidates were presented with their certificates by Deputy Mary O"Rourke at a function held in the Prince of Wales Hotel in Athlone recently. The course is run by the Midland branch of NISO in the three locations twice a year starting in September and February.

The next courses will run in September. For further information please contact the AIT Adult Education Office (090-6483050) or visit the AIT (www.ait.ie) or NISO ( www.niso.ie) websites. You can also contact Chris McCormack at 087 6834815 for the Longford (Longford VEC) course and John Flanagan at 087 9929460 for the Tullamore (Offaly VEC) course.

Each year a significant number of these students continue their studies in AIT on the two-year part-time BSc in Environmental Health and Safety Management Degree course and qualify subsequently to work as safety/environmental Safety officers.
