Gallen CS holds academic awards ceremony

Gallen CS held a very successful and enjoyable academic awards night in the school last Friday night, which honoured those students past and present who demonstrated high standards of academic excellence in their studies and the night was a lovely mix of formal presentations and convivial hospitality.
Vice-principal Ursula Finnegan got the night started with an opening reflection stressing that success comes to those who work while others procrastinate and she urged the students to continue to strive for success.
The first year winners for best results in seven subjects were: 1A Nicole Sheridan; 1B Michael Egan and 1C Ashling O'Shea, who were presented with a lovely illustrated copy of Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland' with personal citations inscribed inside presented by Mr Frank Kearns Chairperson Parents Association.
Second year winners for best results in seven subjects were: 2A David Scully; 2B Niamh Delaney and 2C Clare Ann Kearns, who were all presented with a wonderfully illustrated copy of Grimms Fairy Tales with personal citations inscribed inside.

Fifth year winners for best six results at higher levels were: Sarah Hennessy, Sharon Rourke and Aine Kenny with Frank Kearns presenting.
Recipients of the Co Offaly Student Enterprise Awards for Design were: Paul Murray, Jamie Darcy, Shane Egan, Colm Rourke and Padraic Rourke.
The Engineering Award and Construction Studies Award went to Kevin Conroy. The Agricultural Science Awards went jointly to Aoife Egan and Shane Nally.
The Excellence in Business Award went to Katie Kenny, while the Excellence in Economics Award was won by Fiona Claffey. Shauna Flanagan won the Excellence in Music Award.
The Co Offaly VEC Gaeltacht Scholarship went to Padraig Rourke, while the Sugrue Cup for AIT went to Laura Cosgrove.
Emma Corcoran won the Medallion Award 2009 for Best Junior Cert, while the Leaving Cert Commendation Award 2009 was jointly won by Laura Cosgrove , Shauna Flanagan and Adrian Coughlan.
