€20 million Tullamore sewerage upgrade set to commence

Work could commence as early as next month on a major €20m Tullamore project which is key to the future development of the town. Offaly County Council has confirmed it expects to award the contract for the expansion of the Tullamore Wastewater Treatment Plant, in the coming weeks.

Delays surrounding the wastewater treatment plant upgrade had been criticised this week by the Construction Industry Federation, which, highlighted what it claimed was the unacceptable time-lag across the country between projects being advertised and work beginning on site.

It said an expansion of the Tullamore Wastewater Treatment Plant had not yet commenced, despite approval being granted almost six months ago.

The scheme was first announced by then Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Dick Roche, in April 2007.
