Work on skid-fail bypass delayed by diversion plan

Offaly County Council has delayed the start of remedial works on the new Tullamore bypass, until a new traffic management plan is agreed upon.

The council is in discussions with the contractor Graham PT McWilliams regarding the works and the type of traffic management plan needed on the N52 bypass, which was due to close from Tuesday for nine nights.

Diversions will be in operation during the remedial works and need to be approved by the council before work begins.

The works are needed to address the quality assurance tests carried out by the council earlier this month, which found that the skid resistance of the road surface at specific areas was not up to the specified standard.

The road is due to be closed at various sections overnight and was originally due to be finished by August 12. It is now thought that the work will be delayed by a few days.
