An Offaly man who was released this week after serving nine years for a manslaughter in Belmont has been extradited to England to face a charge of grievous bodily harm to a man 21 years ago.

Oliver Coleman from Shannonbridge is wanted in connection with an alleged assault in Leeds on Hugh Raymond O'Gorman on June 9th 1989.

O'Gorman died 16 months after the alleged attack having never regained consciousness.

Oliver Coleman was due to go on trial on October 16, 1990, just four days after his alleged victim Hugh O'Gorman died.

But instead he skipped bail and returned home to Ireland. In 1999 extradition proceedings were initiated and in November 2003 Coleman lost a Supreme Court challenge against his surrender to British authorities.

However he remained in Ireland because in the meantime he had been sentenced to 12 years for the manslaughter of Michael Rosney whom he shot during a row after a house party in Belmont.

He was cleared of murder.

He has now been released and Gardai have confirmed he was flown back to England earlier this week.
