"Cafe Rock Show" to raise funds for new youth café and Offaly School of Special Education

A "Café Rock Show" on July 24 is to raise funds for St Mary's Youth and Community Centre's new youth café along with the Offaly School of Special Education. Music on the evening is to be provided by local band Frantic Jack from Edenderry, with support from Eoin Martin and Della and the Dealer from Tullamore and XLR8 from Clara. Plans are also in place for a special acoustic appearance by Wayne and Mark from the band Hogan. Manager of the centre Bill O'Hanlon said part of the new Youth Café programme will make it easier for young locals to get involved with music by providing rehearsal space. "It is also important for the young people that they develop a sense of community and being in a position to offer support to the Offaly School of Special Education is a great opportunity to fulfil this," he added. A Youth Café at St Mary's Youth and Community Centre is a direct response to calls from young people for somewhere to hang out with their friends in Tullamore. The café will open on September 12 and will initially cater for young people aged 13-20. A limited number of tickets for the "Café Rock Show" will be on sale from July 5 in St Mary's Youth and Community Centre or from Tullamore Sound Centre at a cosst of €8.
