Chica Beauty and Treatment Room owner Jackie Lynch says she had a few problems finding the premises for her business. I imagine the size of the building had more to do with this than the number of rentable properties in Edenderry - Chica is tiny! They do say good goods come in small packages though, and Chica might be small but it's exquisite too. I visited for reflexology, a therapy that dates back to ancient Egypt where pressure is applied to reflex points of the feet based on a belief that different points on the feet correspond to different parts of the body. Perhaps I should have re-thought my attire of flip-flops; I became aware of my extremely dusty feet as soon as I heard the word 'reflexology'. Oops. The treatment lasts about 45 minutes. Like a massage my sister gives (she'll fix your back but you might hate her for a bit afterwards), there were a few points when I flinched. For the most part though I got to wander off into relaxation and even light sleep while Jackie worked away. It was a really lovely time for myself, when I forgot all else that was going on in the world. Afterwards Jackie pointed out the bits I had flinched at, and what part of my body they corresponded to. Jackie usually recommends a course of six reflexology sessions. Even one is super relaxing though. It's not a cure for anything, but it does give your body a helping hand to re-balance so it can heal itself. It's good for reducing stress, improving circulation, boosting immunity and increasing energy levels. You do have to drink lots of water afterwards though, to flush out the toxins the treatment has freed in your body. A few years ago I wouldn't have given reflexology a chance, but I really enjoyed it. The idea that it can flag different problems in your body is an added bonus.
