The Office of Public Works (OPW) has confirmed remedial works at Edenderry Garda Station are expected to go to tender stage before the end of March. The station was damaged last Halloween due to a malicious incident.

The OPW said this week a tender package is currently being prepared for refurbishment works required at the station. As a result of last October's incident the station was scorched badly, with damage to its floors, fixtures and electrics.

Temporary works were carried out immediately to remove the fire damaged material and repairs were undertaken on the fire alarm and emergency lighting systems to allow a converted rear office in the station be used as a temporary public office. Refurbishment works planned by the OPW include returning the original public office and other areas affected by the fire.

Works will include a new public counter, minor structural alterations to the public office area and rear office, internal redecoration to eliminate smoke damage and electrical works.

The project is expected to process to tender stage in the first quarter of 2012 subject to agreement with An Garda Síochána on matters of detail.
