E-books now available from Offaly libraries

Physical library books are becoming less accessible in Offaly libraries due for a reduction in hours. However virtual books are now available for members all across the county at any time of the day or night. Library members can download books from www.offaly.ie/libraries at any time, any place from right now. Users can browse the available collection and using their library card can download works to their computer or mobile. County librarian Mary Stuart said the online collection is guaranteed to have something for everyone with many popular fiction and non-fiction titles to choose from. "You can download best-selling novels, well-known classics, self-improvement guides, business book, and much more," she said, adding that the service also provides fiction titles for children and teenagers. Ms Stuart pointed out that virtual library books have many advantages over audio books, including that they cannot be damaged and that there is no staff cost involved with checking them in or out or shelving them. "There is no need to move items from branch to branch," she continued, "it is always available everywhere. Requests are supported so users can queue for in demand items." To get started users must install free software. Forgetful library users will be pleased to know that titles automatically expire at the end of the lending period too, leaving no chance for large fines to build up.
