30-year-old dead after Tullamore stabbing

A 30-year-old Polish man who died as a result of a stabbing incident at a house at 128 Kilbride Street in Tullamore yesterday morning (Thursday) has been named as Grzegorz Guzik. Gardai are investigating the possibility the fatal stab wound was self-inflicted by Mr Guzik after a dispute. A second man injured in the incident and taken to hospital with minor injuries was discharged yesterday. Gardai in Tullamore are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident, which is said to have taken place at approximately 7am on Thursday morning, to get in touch with them at Tullamore Garda Station. Staff from the Garda Technical Bureau are still at the scene this morning. Meanwhile a postmortem examination carried out by Deputy State Pathologist John Curtis yesterday confirmed a stab wound as the cause of Mr Guzik's death. The knife used in the incident was recovered by Gardai at the scene. Local CCTV footage continues to be examined by Gardai, who are also appealing for information from witnesses. Speaking to the Offaly Independent this morning Sergeant Ollie Baker from Tullamore Garda Station said the Garda team is "still trying to piece together what happened".
