Gardaí are investigating an incident whereby a small amount of cash was stolen from an Offaly convent while its inhabitants were at Mass.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening last at the Convent of Mercy on Kilcormac's Main Street according to Birr Sergeant John Mahon.
The Sisters of Mercy living at the convent were all at Mass locally when the burglary took place, at some time between 7.20pm and 8.15pm. According to Sgt Mahon a male and female were involved in the incident. The cash was taken from an office in the convent, after its rooms were searched by the intruders.
