"A Very Grand Canal" to be launched in Edenderry this evening

A collection of artistic responses to the Grand Canal in Offaly is to be officially opened this evening (Tuesday) by Fine Gael TD Marcella Corcoran Kennedy.

The opening of “A Very Grand Canal”, which was commissioned by Offaly County Council last year, will take place at Public Access Arts on Edenderry’s JKL Street.

The artistic responses, including from Geraldine O’Reilly, La Cosa Preziosa, Mixed Bag Media, Veronica Nicholson, Eugene O’Brien and Wayne Brennan, will remain on display in Public Access Arts until November 8 during its opening hours from 11am until 5pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Next Tuesday’s opening will be followed on October 4 with an evening with writer Eugene O’Brien and musician Wayne Brennan from 8.30pm.

On October 8, 15, 22, 29 and November 5 there will be a screening of “A Grand Experience” at 8.30pm.

At the October 15 screening attendees can meet featured historian James Scully, while at the October 22 screening director Garret Daly will be in attendance.

On October 10 artist Veronica Nicholson will give a talk on guerilla art, while on October 17 Geraldine O’Reilly will speak at both 2pm and 8pm.
