Offaly native up for honours at 20th Garda Coiste Siamsa Sportstar Awards

Offaly’s Sheila Clavin is one of eleven gardai to be honoured at the Garda Coiste Siamsa Sportstar Awards 2013.

The 20th annual awards sponsored by St Raphael’s Garda Credit Union will be held at Knockranny House Hotel and Spa in Westport, Co Mayo on Friday, November 15 next.

The awards are presented to garda members who have achieved in their chosen sporting areas locally, nationally and internationally.

Rower Garda Clavin, who is stationed at Limerick’s Henry Street station, represented Ireland at the London Metropolitan Regatta in June and took gold in the senior single skulls.

At the Home International Regatta in Nottingham in July she won gold in the senior single skulls and silver in the senior lightweight skull. She also won two gold medals at the World Police and Fire Games, setting an event record in the process.

This year’s selection committee was chaired by Eamonn Coghlan. The panel also included Paul Moran and Mary Kennedy of Coiste Siamsa and John O’Driscoll and Mick Doyle of St Raphael’s Garda Credit Union.
