Justice Minister Alan Shatter has revealed the name of the senior counsel to be charged with conducting an independent examination of a Garda Serious Crime Review Team (SCRT) report in relation to the death of Fr Niall Molloy in Clara in July 1985.

Mr Dominic McGinn, Senior Counsel, is to conduct the review, Minister Shatter revealed yesterday (Thursday).

The terms of reference for Mr McGinn's examination are to conduct a review of the contents of the Garda SCRT report relating to the Garda investigation into the death of Fr Niall Molloy, and in light of that review prepare a report on any issues of public interest that may arise so as to facilitate the reviewer's report being put into the public domain.

Mr McGinn is also charged with identifying any matters of significant public interest or concern which would warrant examination by a further inquiry, which would have a reasonable prospect of establishing the truth.

His report, together with a document identifying any further matters, is to be submitted to Minister Shatter "as soon as possible".
