Gardai reveal dead Clara man shot

The 47-year-old man whose body was found by gardai in a drain at Bog Road, Kilbride in Clara yesterday (Tuesday) morning suffered a number of gunshot wounds, gardai have confirmed this afternoon.

Gardai confirmed the dead man as Christy Daly late yesterday. This morning their investigation into his death was upgraded to a murder inquiry following a post mortem at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy yesterday evening.

Mr Daly’s body was found at approximately 8.45am yesterday in a six foot deep drain about 100m away from a burnt out caravan and two cars, after concerns were raised regarding his whereabouts.

Garda are now appealing for anyone who may have heard gunshots in the vicinity of Bog Road, Kilbride between Sunday, December 29 and Tuesday, January 7 to contact an incident room which has been set up at Tullamore garda station. The station can be contacted on 057 9327600.
