Hopes to launch Clara community website

Clara Community Steering Group is hoping to launch a community website as part of its action plan. The steering committee has identified a number of objectives, based on a household survey, aimed at improving the area.
It has now prioritised the community website; improving the appearance of the town; promoting the industrial heritage of the town and providing opportunities for increasing awareness of drugs and alcohol issues.
The steering group was established to oversee the implementation of the Clara Community Action, which was produced in response to a range of needs that had been identified by the community following a household survey that was conducted as part of the Building Healthy Communities initiative.
A number of projects have been completed to date including the Youth Zone, Seniors Alert Scheme, Cot to College information booklet, Drug & Alcohol Awareness Programme and of course the Community Playground. The plan was formally launched last year at the successful community celebration event held in conjunction with the official playground opening.
In implementing its new objectives, the steering group is hoping to build on the huge level of community engagement and collaboration that has delivered the projects mentioned earlier. The group is confident that the above priorities will attract new people to work alongside the existing dedicated group of volunteers. Support will also be required from a range of State agencies in order to address these priorities.
A public meeting has been organised for Tuesday, March 25, at 8.30pm in the Clara Family Resource Centre. The purpose of this meeting is to update local people on the new priorities as outlined above and to get feedback from the wider community about how best to implement these priorities.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for people to become actively involved in a particular project and to directly influence how the town develops over the next few years. A committee will be elected on the night to oversee the plan as it continues to address the needs of the community and explore opportunities to make Clara a better place to live.
