Karaoke, fancy dress football and a world record attempt will all play their part in this year’s Miss Blue Jean Country Queen Festival in Athboy this weekend.

Thirty-year-old Deirdre Rourke from Ferbane/Banagher Macra is hoping she has what it takes to shine brightest and take the Miss Blue Jean Country Queen crown.

This year’s Miss Blue Jean Country Queen festival takes place over the June bank holiday weekend. Kicking off on Friday evening, an opening ceremony will be followed by on-stage interviews with Joe Healy for all contestants.

On Saturday the queens will be interviewed privately by judges, before an afternoon of live entertainment and events including karaoke, a pub crawl and a county colours night.

Sunday will include some fancy dress football and a modelling competition, before the Miss Blue Jean Country Queen is announced at a banquet at the Darnley Lodge Hotel.

On Monday the queens will say farewell to each other with a world record attempt at making a copper crown with old copper coins.

Offaly hopeful Deirdre will be up against 28 other girls looking to claim the title of Miss Blue Jean Country Queen 2014.

A trained civil engineer, Deirdre currently works as a Supervalu checkout supervisor. A dedicated Macra member, Deirdre also enjoys walking, shopping and socialising.
