Yellow River Wind Farm given green light

The Yellow River Wind Farm, planned for north of Rhode in Offaly, has been given the green light by An Bord Pleanala.

Planning permission has been given for 29 of the plan's proposed 32 turbines.

The majority of the turbines that will form the wind farm will be allowed an overall height of up to 166 metres. Eleven of the turbines have been limited to an overall height of 156 metres.

An Bord Pleanala has ruled turbines cannot be erected closer than 500 metres away from dwellings, except with written consent from the owner of the dwelling.

Permitted noise levels and maximum allowed periods of shadow flicker have also been defined.
