Explorers museum opens at charleville castle

Tullamore’s Charleville Castle is now the proud home of The Explorers Museum.

The museum was officially opened last Saturday, September 6, at a ribbon cutting ceremony that boasted Sir Ranulph Fiennes - the first man to reach both Poles by surface travel - as keynote speaker.

The weekend of festivities also included what Charleville Castle Heritage Trust’s Dudley Stewart described as a “dry run” of an Explorers Film Festival, set to take place annually at the castle from next year.

The Explorers Museum is the brainchild of Lorie Karnath and Tim Lavery. A not for profit venture, it will serve to promote exploration through recognition of significant expeditions and discoveries, while also curating special exhibits featuring feats and historical achievements.
