An impression of what Edenderry's 2014 Christmas lights will look like.

No grinch in edenderry as new christmas lights ordered

Last year Christmas lights in Edenderry were anything but a certainty as a result of lack of funds. This year locals can rest assured the town will boast a very festive glow however, with an order placed this week for a whole range of new Christmas lights for the town.

Edenderry’s new Christmas lights have been made possible thanks to grant aid from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), which was brought to the attention of locals by local company Edenderry Power - part of Bord na Mona Powergen - at an Edenderry Credit Union Business Support (ECUBS) hosted night earlier in the year arranged to discuss Christmas lighting plans for the town.

“Bord na Mona Powergen put its thinking cap on and approached ECUBS advising them of the availability of grand aid for community projects with SEAI,” Edenderry’s Anne Marie Kelleher explained.

With further assistance given in the preparation of the grand aid application, ECUBS are now delighted to announce that SEAI have indicated their willingness to provide aid to the town to replace its old Christmas lights with new sustainable energy efficient ones.

In addition the SEAI community project will also provide support for the upgrade insulation of St Joseph’s Hall and will work to extend the wood pellet biomass heating system that was successfully installed in the church last year.

SEAI grant aid will fund 50 per cent of the cost of Edenderry’s Christmas lights this year. The remainder of the cost will be met by local donations.
