Lumcloon ns celebrates 50 years

Fifty years of teaching and learning at Lumcloon NS will be celebrated this evening (Friday).

The building that opened as a two teacher school back in 1964 is the venue for celebrations that will welcome back past as well as current pupils, parents and indeed anyone with a connection to what is the hub of the local community.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent principal of Lumcloon NS Catherine Doolan said an open invitation is extended to all to join in the celebrations this evening.

The event will begin with Mass celebrated by Fr Pierre Pepper at 7pm. A few short speeches and presentations will take place immediately afterwards, before giving way to refreshments.

A video made by the school’s current students showing life in Lumcloon NS in 2014 will also be shown at this evening’s event, along with a slideshow of photos from the years since its opening.

Shannonbridge native Catherine has headed up the school’s teaching staff since 2009, and has taught in the school since 1997. Indirectly her connections with the school go back further however, with her own husband a Lumcloon NS past pupil.

“We’ve past pupils all over the world,” she added, “from Canberra to Canada, Dublin to Dubai.”

While some connected with the school will no doubt be too far flung to call by this evening, the invitation is open for all who can to call in and celebrate the past, present and future of Lumcloon NS.
