New snow and ice warning this morning

Met Eirean issued a new status yellow warning for snow and ice across Ireland this morning.

It warned of outbreaks of sleet and snow in places this morning, especially in parts of the midlands, north and east, with some accumulations.

Today will be very cold. Mostly cloudy during the morning, with scattered showers, some turning to sleet, with snow in places, especially over high ground and in northern areas.

It’s expected to brighten up during the day, with sunny spells developing, but a few scattered showers are possible, some wintry. Maximum temperatures will reach between three and six degrees Celsius.

The forecaster has warned of bitterly cold conditions tonight with clear spells. There will be some scattered wintry showers of sleet and snow also. Minimum temperatures will be between zero to minus three degrees Celsius, with frost and a risk of icy patches.

It will remain very cold on Saturday, when further scattered showers of rain, sleet and a risk of snow. However, Met Eireann expects many areas to remain dry with bright sunny spells. Maximum temperatures on Saturday will range between three and six degrees.
