Jackie Nickerson

Photographer commissioned to document offaly in 2015

An internationally acclaimed photographer has been commissioned by Offaly County Council to document Offaly during 2015.

Jackie Nickerson will create 200 images which will be published in a large photo book and culminate in an exhibition of some of the images.

Ms Nickerson’s appointment follows an open call for proposals from photographers in late 2014 which saw applications come in from all over the country. Funded under the per cent for art scheme, the council desscribed it as a unique opportunity for both the photographer and the county.

Ms Nickerson is a photographer who makes images that examine identity and the physical and psychological condition of working within a specific environment.

Her photographs challenge conventional notions of making portraits and landscapes and offer a more engaged view of her subject. It is this trait that saw her commissioned by Time Magazine in 2014 to document the Ebola fighters as their ‘Person of the Year.’
