Bank ceo responds to offaly td over ferbane branch

Ulster Bank account holders in Ferbane are being told their ATM will be retained and bank deposits can be made in the town’s Post Office.

Offaly TD Marcella Corcoran Kennedy described the move as a “positive and pragmatic development” but said she was “deeply disappointed” that the bank are determined to close the branch.

She has received assurances from the Chief Executive of Ulster Bank that the bank’s ATM machine will be retained in Ferbane. Deputy Corcoran-Kennedy has also been assured that Ulster Bank customers will be able to deposit money into their accounts in Ferbane Post Office.

“Following on from repeated representations on my part, and a meeting I held with Ulster Bank last Thursday afternoon in Dublin, I have today(Monday) received a letter from Jim Brown, CEO of Ulster Bank, confirming that the bank’s ATM machine will be retained in Ferbane. Furthermore, Ulster Bank customers will be able to deposit money into the Ulster Bank accounts in Ferbane Post Office” Deputy Corcoran Kennedy said.

“While I am deeply disappointed that the Bank are determined to close, despite my best efforts, the efforts of the community action group and of the wider community I have been determined from the start to ensure that the people of Ferbane retain key banking services” continued Marcella, who added that the “retention of withdrawal and deposit facilities represents a positive and pragmatic development.”

Deputy Corcoran Kennedy has called on the Bank to go further and consider the prospect of making the building available to the community, or any other local community organisation. She pointed out that the building, which is owned by Ulster Bank, has a central location in the town of Ferbane.

“For the wellbeing of the town, it is important that this premises does not lie vacant” said Marcella, who has pledged to continue to work with the local community and the bank to ensure the best possible resolution for the people of Ferbane.
