Evelyn orourke to attend international womens day event in tullamore

Broadcaster and writer Evelyn O'Rourke is due to speak at Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service’s Annual International Women’s Day Brunch in Tullamore this week.

Ms O’Rourke will be a guest speaker at Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service(ODVSS)'s Annual International Women’s Day Brunch in the Central Hotel on Main Street in Tullamore this Thursday from 12.45 – 2 pm.

Ms O’Rourke was on maternity leave with her first child she discovered that she was pregnant for the second time. Within a week of finding this news out however, her world came crumbling down when she was diagnosed with cancer.

She is probably best known for her work on the Gerry Ryan show and Operation transformation and also works as a broadcaster on RTE Radio One on shows such as Arena.

Ms O’Rourke has written an emotional memoir ‘Dear Ross’, addressed to her then unborn child and tells of her battle with the disease. The book has been described by her publisher as “searingly honest” and follow her journey from diagnosis,  surgery and chemotherapy in which her determination to ensure the protection of her unborn baby remained paramount.

She is delighted to attend the ODVSS Brunch to share her story and inspire women that no matter what challenge faces you it is possible to reach into your own strength and courage to overcome it.

Also speaking at this year’s event is Lady Alison Rosse from Birr Castle. Alison Rosse was born and brought up in Yorkshire. She met her husband, now The Earl of Rosse, when they were both students at Oxford, so she has known Ireland, and Birr, since she was very young.

Lady Rosse became an artist, painting especially landscapes. When they first married her husband worked for the United Nations Development Programme and UNESCO. They travelled and lived in several third world countries, including six years in Iran where she used her artistic skill to work as a draughtsman on archaeological digs.
