Demonstration due to take place in tullamore

Irish Democratic Party(IDP) members will hold a demonstration in opposition to home repossesions at Tullamore Courthouse this morning.

IDP chairperson, Ken Smollen, said the action is being taken “to highlight the continuing onslaught on families who are being brought through the courts for the repossession of their family homes.”

According to Mr Smollen, there are 38 applications for home repossesions listed at Tullamore Circuit Court today. He said IDP members intend to be at the courthouse from 10.15am with a banner reading: Stop Evictions Now - A Fair and Sustainable Solution Must be Found for Every Homeowner.

Nationwide, Mr Smollen stated there are 342 applications before the courts. He doesn’t believe people in Offaly are fully aware of the extent of the problem.

Following the courthouse demonstration, the IDP members will walk through Tullamore, stopping outside each of the town’s banks
