Liam O'Flynn and Paddy Glackin.

Trad heavyweights play tullamore

Two of Ireland’s most acclaimed traditional musicians are joining forces for what should be a night to remember in Tullamore Rugby Club this Friday night, September 11.

Stalwarts of the traditional music scene in Ireland since the 1970s, Liam Óg O’Flynn and Paddy Glackin will be in town to give an intimate performance which is sure to delight local enthusiasts.

Liam is an uilleann piper from Kildare. He was born into a family steeped in music and found his voice as a piper.

In the 1970s was one of the founding members of the folk group Planxty. He has performed pieces written for uilleann pipes and orchestra and has also worked with artists as diverse as Van Morrison, Kate Bush and Séamus Heaney.

Paddy is one of Ireland’s leading fiddle players. He was a founding member of the powerhouse that was the Bothy Band. He is from Dublin but maintains a deep interest in and respect for his Donegal heritage, and this can be heard in his fiddle playing.

They will be supported by Meath brothers Rúairí and Fergus McGorman. Rúairí is a fiddle and bouzouki player while Fergus plays the flute, tin whistles and percussion.

Tickets for the event cost €15 and are available in advance and on the door.
