Offaly Councillor to contest general election for Independent Alliance

North Offaly councillor John Foley has announced that he is stand for the Independent Alliance grouping at the next general election.
Foley was named among the group’s candidates at a meeting in Athlone at the weekend.
Also running for the grouping are TDs Shane Ross, Michael Fitzmaurice, Finian McGrath, John Halligan and Tom Fleming.
In a statement afterwards, Foley said he would be to the fore in ensuring that Offaly was not left behind as the economy recovers.
Foley previously ran for Fianna Fail as a running mate of Brian Cowen and as an independent in the last general election.
“This is my third General Election and having come so near on the first two occasions, I am very confident that this is the time that the people of Offaly will elect me as one of their three representatives in Dail Eireann.
“I will not be shackled by party rules, I will be a representative of the people of Offaly and the people of Offaly only.
“Offaly needs a TD, a TD who will work for Offaly first, not a TD who is party first.”
