Game of Thrones star shooting in Tullamore

One of the stars of the hit TV show Game of Thrones is in Tullamore this week to shoot a short film.

Dublin native Brian Fortune, best known for his role as Othell Yarwyck in Game of Thrones, is part of the cast for the short film Caper, which has been shooting on location in Tullamore this week. Fortune has also appeared in Vikings and numerous Irish television and film projects. Johnny Elliott and Peter O’Byrne also play lead roles in the short, for which many of the main scenes shot in the old Texas department store.

The script, which was written by David Olof Svedberg, recently won the coveted Film Offaly/FilmBase 2015 award, it was chosen over 129 other scripts and is now in the production stages.

Producing the film is Dublin based Five Knight Films, whose team includes Tullamore man Eoin Naughton. Five Knight Film’s work includes feature films and music videos such as Irish band Hometown.

With a large portion of production taking place in Tullamore, Caper is the second notable film project to take place in the town in the past month alone. In November, an RTE crew filmed scenes for the pilot of Storyland series Quinn and O’Grady, written by local woman Janet Hayes, in the county council and around Offaly.

The establishment of FilmOffaly in 2008 has seen the county become both viable and an appealing location for national and international TV and film crews to. FilmOffaly is Offaly’s Film Commission and a project of Offaly County Council, for further information please visit www.filmoffaly.ie
