Overcrowding problems continue at Tullamore hospital

The Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore is the second most overcrowded in the country today.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation's Trolley Watch, there were 43 patients on trolleys waiting for a hospital bed this morning up from 31 the day before. Of the 43, 32 were in the emergency department and 11 were on wards.

The number of patients waiting on trolleys fell by 6% nationwide last month compared to the same period of 2015 thanks to a 41% reduction in Dublin hospitals.

However, new figures from the INMO have revealed that there was an eight pecent increase in Tullamore over the same period from 267 patients in September 2015 to 290 this year.
