Ploughing to return to Offaly

AFTER attracting record numbers this year, the ploughing championships are set to return to Screggan, Tullamore, next year.

Hopes were high that the Tullamore venue would get the green light to host the ploughing next year and it was duly announced yesterday.

The managing director of the National Ploughing Association (NPA) Anna May McHugh said the feedback from this year's event was hugely positive.

“Feedback from landowners, the local community and the wider public has been very positive and all were incredibly enthusiastic to see a return,' she said.

Vistors who attended the three-day event this year generally found that the location was central, while the traffic was well managed, with the minimum of delays.

Next year's championships will take place on September 19, 20 and 21.
