Gilson's, on the corner of William St and Patrick St, Tullamore, were well known electric appliance providers in the 1960s when the market for televisions and fridges took off.

Talk on rural electrification scheme tonight in Tullamore

John Gibbons will give a presentation on the Rural Electrification Scheme in the faithful county tonight, Thursday May 11 at Offaly History Centre.

The presentation is about 45 minutes and will get under way at 8pm.

It will include general information about the Rural Electrification Scheme, and facts gleaned from ESB archives about the electric supply situation in Tullamore in about 1929.

The main part of the presentation is an audio slide show of selected sound bites from the recordings made with Gus Claffey, John Ryan, John Flanagan, Peter Kelly, Cartage Minnock, PJ Goode, Paddy Heaney, Paddy Wynne, John Kearney, Paddy Joe Birmingham, Oliver Keenaghan, the Late Ted Evans, and Billy Hickey.  
This will be the last lecture in the History Centre's 2016-17 season.

Refreshments will be served following the meeting.
