Dolan seeks funding for long awaited Tullamore Kilbeggan link road

Independent Cllr Dervill Dolan wants a meeting with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to request an immediate funding to progress the long-awaited N52 Tullamore to Kilbeggan link road.

Cllr Dolan said the propsed Tullamore-Kilbeggan link road comprises approximately 4.6km of carriageway and would provide a much-needed link, from the N52 Tullamore bypass, to the M6 motorway at Kilbeggan.

He added that as employment and business activity improves, the proposed link road would be safer for all road users and an essential piece of road infrastructure that will encourage business and further development in the Tullamore area.

'It would be of great benefit the county as a whole as many people and businesses in south Offaly travel to and from the M6 connection at Kilbeggan via Tullamore,' Cllr Dolan told the Offaly Independent this week.

“A lot of work has already been carried out in relation to the new link road,' continued Dolan.

'A route for the roadway has already been selected and preliminary works were carried out in relation to design, EIS and CPO proposals.

'Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) suspended the Tullamore-Kilbeggan road project a number of years ago due to funding constraints. However, I understand that this road project is one of the few road projects in the country that are ‘ready-to-go’ due to the amount of work already done, and I feel that now is the right time for the councillors and the council executive to put pressure on the TII to provide the funding to complete this essential road link project”, he concluded.
