35 Edenderry clubs to get funding boost

The Cathaoirleach of Edenderry Municipal District Cllr Noel Bourke has said that he is glad to see that 35 clubs and organisations throughout the Edenderry Electoral Area have been allocated grants by Offaly County Council under the Community Facilities Scheme.

“In all 128 applications were received from various locations around the County and the fund provided to the Council to be allocated was €64,500 with the absolute maximum grant to be allocated being €1,000,” said Cllr Bourke, who added that in order to give each valid application a grant, amounts given varied from €325 up to €760.

Cllr Bourke said that the Council would have needed €145,649 to meet the full amount applied for in all the applications. 

“The grants can only be used for capital type projects associated with the club or organisation and I know from speaking to people associated with some of them that the grant irrespective of its size, will be very useful,” said Cllr Bourke.

“I’m glad that the thirty five Clubs/Organisations in my Electoral Area have been approved for a grant and I know that while the grant is not huge, the people involved will make good use of what they have been approved for’ said Cllr Bourke who went on to say that all of the Clubs and Organisations who applied, provide a good facility for their areas.”
