All Tvvins and Rubberbandits to headline Castlepalooza

Dublin band All Tvvins and the Rubberbandits are the two headline acts at this year’s Castlepalooza festival at Charleville Castle in Tullamore.

Now in its 13th year and firmly established as one of Ireland’s most popular boutiqe music festivals, this year’s event takes place from August 3-5.
In addition to All Tvvins, who will be making their only Irish festival appearance of the summer, other musical acts on the bill include Detroit Swindle, Ships, New Jackon (David Kitt’s electronic alter ego) and Space Dimension Controller. Up to 60 more music and comedy acts will be announced in the next few months.

Limerick comedy duo The Rubberbandits will headline the Laughter Lab, while a host of top Irish comedians are also scheduled to perform including Karl Spain, Eric Lalor, Colin Murphy and Gearoid Farrelly.

Castlepalooza also continues to be one of the most reasonably priced festivals in the country with a three day camping ticket costing €139, a three day no camping ticket costing €109 and day tickets at €49.

Festival founder Cillian Stewart told the Offaly Independent that the secret to the festival’s longevity, is down to two things: firstly, its relatively small numbers (it has a 5,000 capacity) means it has retained its unique athmosphere and secondly the consistently  high quality of the line ups down through the years.

“We started in 2006 and since then we have been bringing really good international and Irish acts into Tullamore. It’s a geat festival for the locality as its one of the biggest festivals in the county.

“This year we have a very good line up with international acts like Chk, Chk, Chk and high calibre Irish acts such All Tvvins and New Jackson.

“Our prices are among the most reasonable around with day tickets at €49 and as festivals go it is a reasonably small event. You can look after people and people don’t generally get lost on site. It’s quite contained and this creates a very good vibe throughout the whole weekend.”

Mr Stewart, who paid tribute to the people of Offaly for their continued support, says that the festival landscape has changed dramatically since 2006, due primarily to the large number of events being staged every year.

“I’ve been doing it over 12 years. It doesn’t get easier although I really enjoying doing it. In fact, it’s almost got harder as there is so much competition now. It’s a tough industry to be in, but the competition keeps you on your toes. Every year you have to try and better than before.”
