Clara Day Care Centre due to re-open next week

Clients attending the Day Care Centre in Clara are being advised the centre will reopen on Tuesday June 5 next.

That's according to the HSE who have confirmed the procurement of a replacement nurse to the fill a vacancy which opened up following a retirement.

The centre closed two weeks ago without prior warning, with the HSE citing a shortage of nursing cover for the closure, despite, according to a Clara councillor, three months notice of intention to leave being given by the occupant of the previous post.

Cllr Frank Moran welcomed the news of the centre's reopening saying the facility provides a "vital service" to the community.

“Further to ongoing representations in conjunction with Deputy Barry Cowen and HSE management I can confirm the Clara Day Care Centre will re-open next week.

“The HSE have just confirmed a replacement nurse has been procured and will start work next Tuesday," began Cllr Moran.

"This is a vital service to the community of Clara and surrounding areas for the people who attend on a daily basis and precludes them from isolation.CMG Body:  “I’m delighted the service will be back operational next week as the community needs a place where they can come enjoy mixing with their peers and have the sense of security that routine medical attention can be afforded to them when required.”

The closure of the Day Care Centre caused huge worry to its service users.

One woman in her nineties contacting Cllr Moran on May 17 to say that she was due to attend the centre as usual to have her legs dressed by the nurse, but the bus to convey her to the centre never arrived.

The woman was subsequently informed that the centre was closed as there was no nurse on duty.

"People attending this service feel it’s vital for their health and wellbeing," continued Cllr Moran.
